Annual Fund Drive

MAFA is pleased to announce that its first annual fund drive commences in September 2020 and will run until November 21, 2020, the feast day of the Presentation of the Theotokos in the Temple. The Feast of the Presentation is MAFA’s Patronal Feast, chosen in part because of the importance of the Theotokos to Mount Athos, over which she serves as Protectress.

Accomplishments of MAFA and Goals of the Fund Drive

MAFA has already accomplished much in just the first two years of its existence, including providing support for (i) the restoration of the historic Axion Estin cell, which had been falling into ruin; (ii) emergency repairs at Grigoriou Monastery following a fire there in summer 2019; (iii) a feasibility study for the restoration of footpaths around Simonopetra Monastery; (iv) travel grants in aid of Athos-related theological and historical research by several young scholars and theologians, and (v) the purchase of critical medical supplies and equipment for the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19 at the recently completed Mount Athos Health Center in Karyes.

Funds raised in the 2020 Annual Fund Drive will go to support new and ongoing efforts on Mt. Athos like those above. MAFA also hopes to use some funds to start building an endowment, which should provide reliable, sustained support for the Holy Mountain in the future.

Activities of the Fund Drive and October 2020 Webinar

In addition to soliciting donations via U.S. Mail and e-mail, MAFA will be conducting a special webinar on October 17, 2020, in connection with the Annual Fund Drive. This will be an opportunity for supporters and friends of MAFA to gather together, make connections, hear about the exciting work of MAFA, and learn about the history, current status, and spiritual life of the Holy Mountain. Information about this event can be obtained by writing to info@mountathosfoundation.org.
